The annual Friedrich A. von Hayek Lecture in Law -- 2007

The third lecture of this annual series will be presented by Professor Viet Dinh, Georgetown University Law Center Professor of Law and co-director of the Asian Law and Policy Studies Program. The Friedrich A. von Hayek Lecture focuses on the analysis of law from a classical liberal perspective. International Law is something that all legal theories have to consider and adapt to. Professor Dinh’s lecture, “’Fixing’ International Law with Lessons from Constitutional and Corporate Governance" will analyze the lessons that familiar legal structures may teach us in dealing with international legal problems.
There will be a reception following the lecture.

After 9/11, Dinh played a key role in developing the USA Patriot Act and revising the Attorney General’s Guidelines, which govern federal law enforcement activities and national security investigations. Dinh also represented the Department of Justice in selecting and confirming federal judges, contributing to the appointment of 100 district judges and 23 appellate judges during his tenure.

Dinh is the founder and principal of Bancroft Associates PLLC, a law and public policy consulting firm. He serves on the Board of Directors of the News Corporation, M & F Worldwide Corporation, and the National Conference on Citizenship. He also serves on the Advisory Boards of ChoicePoint, Inc., the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Center, the Section on National Security Law of the Association of American Law Schools, and the Standing Committee on National Security of the American Bar Association.

Dinh graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was a Class Marshal and an Olin Research Fellow in Law and Economics. He was a law clerk to Judge Laurence H. Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

In addition to sponsoring the annual Friedrich A. von Hayek Lecture in Law, the Journal invites all of its authors onto campus to present their work before NYU's students and faculty.
